What's Next? HanesBrands' Week After Week Efforts

04 May 2020

The production of masks and gowns, on top of donations, shows exemplary effort.

In a steady stream of updates, HanesBrands has been adding activities to lend a hand in the current crisis, be it by donation or manufacturing or supporting government initiatives.

In March, they had already begun the weekly production of 1.5 million 3-ply, all-cotton masks that are to be used when more technical masks are not required. By April 1, 2020, they had already donated 6,500 N95 respirator masks to hospitals and first responders in Forsyth County, North Carolina.  In mid-April, HanesBrands announced that they were to produce an additional 320 million FDA-approved, all-cotton face masks, ramping up production to around 40 million per week.  HanesBrands has now also begun using its apparel design and manufacturing expertise to produce more than 20 million long-sleeved medical gowns to be distributed by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency to hospitals and healthcare facilities.

“First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation to medical professionals and first responders around the globe for their tireless efforts in providing critical care while facing great personal risk during the pandemic,” said HanesBrands CEO Gerald W. Evans Jr.

In addition to this production of masks and gowns, HanesBrands has also donated 1,000 pairs of Hanes Hosiery ComfortSoft leggings for donation to GLAM4GOOD, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering people in need.  The leggings are to be distributed to New York City homeless shelters to help some of the most vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“GLAM4GOOD is working around the clock to team up with our donors and corporate partners to respond, facilitate and deliver aid to as many of our giving partners as possible to meet the needs during this unprecedented and difficult time,” said Mary Alice Stephenson, CEO and Founder of GLAM4GOOD Foundation. “We appreciate support from Hanes Hosiery, and hope that others will help in any way they can.”
