Carvico Launches Melville

In the latest innovation for the world of training and competition swimwear, Melville combines the technical performance of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) with an ecological and eco-sustainable soul.

Made of 100% polyester, the new fabric by Carvico contains 45% PBT polyester and 55% Repreve recycled polyester, a sustainable fiber produced entirely from post-consumer plastic originally employed in the food industry (PET).

Repreve is patented by Unifi, a company operating in the textile market and equipped with a modern production plant which processes about 250,000 used bottles every hour, thereby removing them from the waste stream.

The production process aims to give a second life to plastic bottles: recovered PET containers are washed and ground into fragments which are melted and transformed into chips. These chips are then re-melted and converted into REPREVE yarn, which Carvico uses to produce the technical performance fabric dubbed Melville, now available in a recycled version for the first time ever.

Boasting chlorine resistance, stretch, protection from UV rays, shape retention, pilling resistance and fast drying, Melville has been engineered for the production of training and competition swimsuits designed to guarantee high performance, comfort and durability.
