HanesBrands Inc, owner of Maidenform, Wonderbra, and Champion, among others, has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency with an Energy Star award as Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence. This is HanesBrands’ tenth consecutive year receiving the award for environmentally-conscious business practices. The company has made significant strides in meeting ambitious 2020 environmental and energy goals, with renewable energy sources accounting for over 40% of the company’s energy usage and a 36% decrease in carbon monoxide emissions compared to its 2007 baseline. The company also succeeded in cutting water use by 31% and diverting 86% of supply chain waste from landfills, while still working towards a 2020 goal of 100%.
The Energy Star Award is given out annually by the EPA of the U.S. government in an effort to recognize “businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment.” Winners are considered leaders of their industries in energy-efficiency and sustainable production, whose efforts reduce emissions and create a healthy environment.
The Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award is the highest honor that recognizes partners who have received Partner of the Year for a minimum of two consecutive years.
