The Lycra Company today announced two key leadership changes aimed at accelerating innovation and reinforcing its position in the global market.
Effective September 25, 2025, Robert Johnston has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Doug Kelliher joins the company as Executive Vice President, Product. Both will report directly to CEO Gary Smith.
Expanded Role for Robert Johnston
A company veteran of more than 35 years, Robert Johnston will take on broader responsibilities. In addition to overseeing global manufacturing operations and IT systems, he will now lead product development. He will manage the R&D teams, laboratory resources, and pilot units, with a focus on accelerating innovation and enhancing the product portfolio.
Doug Kelliher to Lead Product Strategy
Bringing over 30 years of product management experience from companies including Timberland, Velcro Companies, Polartec, and Milliken & Company, Doug Kelliher will head the team responsible for fiber, fabric, and apparel strategy. His goal: to create differentiated, value-driven solutions that align with consumer needs.
According to Gary Smith, CEO of The Lycra Company, “These appointments reflect our strategy to respond faster to market shifts and evolving consumer demands.”
