When the lease ended in Nashville’s Wedgewood Houston neighborhood, owner Kathryn McGinnis-Jacobsen decided to move Darlin’ Lingerie to Germantown, inspired by customer feedback that praised the store but found the previous location inconvenient.
Known for its spacious pedestrian areas, charming boutiques, and vibrant food scene, the new area proved to be an ideal fit. The move quickly opened up opportunities for community engagement, with four annual street festivals and a supportive, women-owned business network. The building houses a mix of unique businesses, from a perfumery and yoga studio to an oyster bar, making the area a destination in itself.
Kathryn planned a store layout which is more efficient, featuring larger fitting rooms, a private party space, and expanded inventory storage. The brighter, airier interior draws inspiration from 1960s opulence, with pastel tones, paisleys, velvet, and fringe creating a welcoming feel. A grand opening was held coinciding with Darlin’s seven-year anniversary and included a burlesque dancer as well as more live entertainment, aura readings, and gift card raffles for neighboring businesses.
The event exceeded expectations, and longtime customers have embraced the change, with many praising the upgrades and discovering new favorite spots in Germantown. A word of advice from Kathryn: it’s okay to outgrow spaces and take a risk!
