TREND ALERT "Green" Beachwear Textiles

10 November 2017

Beachwear fabrics with an eco-friendly focus are set to be a big hit for summer 2019. An exclusive insight into Intima Media Group's Beachwear Fabric Trends 2019 dossier.

                  Seaqual Dives into Swim Fabrics

Cleaning the oceans and upcycling plastic waste to extract a new, eco-friendly polyester fiber: this is the challenge that was taken up by Spanish company Seaqual 4U. A fleet of more than 400 fishing boats are involved in the project, they go out to sea to clean the oceans by collecting waste in their nets. The plastic waste they retrieve is processed to create the fiber, and then further processed into continuous and discontinuous yarns, meeting the requirements of the entire textile industry. Each kilo of the produced fiber represents a kilo of waste that has been removed from the seabed. After having conquered the world of lingerie and fashion, Seaqual has had a positive response from swimwear fabric manufactures. Sofileta and Generos de Punto Fabres have reiterated their confidence by once again using the recycled fiber but this time in new swim ranges, while, others, such as Estilmar, Oktex del Punto and Lemar, are launching their first Seaqual ranges, which will be presented at the MarediModa trade show. It is important to note that Seaqual offers the same properties and qualities as a fiber created from virgin polyester but its production reduces water consumption by 40 percent, energy consumption by 50 percent and CO2 emissions by 60 percent.

                  Maglificio Ripa’s Eco Fabrics

In line with their green focus, in their Splash 2019 collection Maglificio Ripa is presenting a series of ecological tissues that combine a recycled polyamide with the family of premium stretch Roica Eco-Smart yarn. The resulting product is completely “green” (see our photo). On the sporty side, fabrics crafted with the Elastomere Roica Clean Fit guarantee an anti-odor performance which will last throughout the product’s life. For athleisure, we also note the launch of a collection of polypropylene elastic jacquard. These are double cloth fabrics with sculpting properties that do not restrict movement with a nice feel.

Ratti Setamarina’s Goes Green with Eco-Responsible Collection

Their news for this season is a capsule collection of 16 items of clothing and swimwear which is environmentally friendly. It is the outcome of research on 100 percent green yarn and is printed in accordance with the most environmentally responsible processes. With continued investment in the innovation of industrial processes, this company’s focus on the environment is also reflected in their athleisure 2019 collection. The capsule collection, launched for summer 2018, has been expanded with fabrics produced with regenerated nylon and piece-dyed prints with geometric themes and leather and woven effects. These create an athleisure concept which is increasingly closer to ready-to-wear.

                  Carvico’s Revolutional Eco

Carvico are enriching their offer of green fabrics made from recycled fibers with Revolutional Eco, marking a sustainable transformation of the fabrics in the historic Revolutional Family. Revolutional Eco keeps Carvico’s best selling fabric family’s technical characteristics (in terms of fit, breathability, comfort and muscular compression) unchanged but adds an eco dimension thanks to the use of Econyl - a 100 percent recycled polyester fiber. The fabric sculpts the silhouette without restricting movement, guaranteeing a protection against UV rays as well as a resistance to piling and abrasions. It is ideal for competitive swimwear, activewear, shapewear and beachwear.
