In partnership with Fulgar S.p.A a new yarn with antiviral and antibacterial properties will soon be available in Europe

27 October 2020

The Rodia-Solvay Group has entrusted Fulgar with the European production and distribution of Amni Virus-Bac Off technology. The new yarn will be on the market as from November.

The recent collaboration between the Brazilian group and the Italian specialist manufacturer of man-made fibers now features a special polyamide yarn based on Amni Virus-Bac Off technology, soon to debut in Europe under the name of Q-Skin powered by Amni Virus-Bac Off. This innovation follows Emana, a PA-based yarn with FIR technology that uses human body heat to increase the general well-being of the skin; and more recently, the biodegradable PA 6.6 Amni Soul Eco.

Developed in record time in the Rhodia-Solvay research laboratories in Paulínia and Santo André in Brazil, the new product was created specifically to provide additional protection in this tricky phase of back-to-school, work and daily interaction outside the home. Protection that is built-in at the level of the fabric, preventing clothes and shoes from becoming a vehicle for the transmission of viruses and bacteria, and blocking the tracking of microorganisms into the home.

Amni Virus-Bac Off technology inhibits enveloped viruses (influenza, herpes and novel Coronavirus) and non-enveloped viruses, thereby helping to avoid retransmission from textile surfaces as well as blocking cross-contamination of viruses and bacteria thanks to the antiviral and antibacterial agent incorporated permanently in the polymer matrix. The electron affinity with the proteins in the external structure of the virus causes this agent to prevent the tissues from becoming a host surface for the spread of harmful viruses and bacteria that are on the tissue itself, thus helping to reduce the risk and speed of contamination.

The antiviral properties of Amni Virus-Bac Off technology have been tested by an independent laboratory, following the international textile protocols expressed in the ISO 18184 standard (determining the antiviral activity of textile products). In the new yarn, antiviral properties are combined with antibacterial properties - certified according to the international textile standards AATCC100 - with a permanent effect; therefore, the benefits remain unchanged in garments even after numerous washes (unlike post-treatments). Regarding features and performance, the PA Q-Skin powered by Amni Virus-Bac Off offers the same advantages of a standard polyamide in terms of softness, thermal comfort, breathability, ease of maintenance and quick drying.

In distribution in Europe as from November 2020, the textile yarn with Amni Virus-Bac Off technology can be used for the production of casual, sports and workwear, socks, shoes and accessories, masks for the community, as well as hospital clothing, children's wear and even seat covers and gloves.
